The Wilfer double basses, like e.g. the Busetto, Violin, Gamba, Venezia and Prague models, combine more then four generations of experience and old master’s tradition. They are available in all sizes and string lengths, for Jazz as well as for solo- and orchestra playing. Easy response and playability, and highest quality of tone with balanced sound colors are their trade marks. Only old, well seasoned european tone woods are used. All backs and tops are hand carved, taking care of the specific characteristics of the wood.
Upon special request, lion heads for scrolls and carvings on the top and back are available, as well as a variety of natural resin varnishs, based on the family’s traditional receipes.
The double basses are available in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 5/8, 7/8 and 4/4 sizes, and with a flat back or left-handed.
The Wilfer master workshop was founded in 1905 by master luthier Emanuel Wilfer senior. Within the last 100 years, his master instruments have got more and more sought-after by musicians and collectors. Today, the workshop is successfully run in the fourth generation by Roland Rudolf Wilfer.
